The Script

It´s an Irish pop-rock band who started playing in 2007. They are three in the band:Danny O'Donoghue, Mark Sheehan and Glen Power.
In 2008, they published their first album, The Script, but they didn´t become famous until the single "The man who can´t be moved". We think that they become successful because of the lyrics and melodies of their songs. They mostly sing about love, always combined with beautiful sounds.
For example, in "The man who can't be moved" they talk about a boy who is waiting for his love who never returns. He thinks that she will come back someday and that he will always be waiting for her.

My Chemical Romance

The group we have chosen is My Chemical Romance. They are a group from New Jersey, in the USA, and they play rock. The lead vocalist is Gerard Way, the bassist is Mikey Way, the guitarists Frank Iero and Ray Toro and the drummer Bob Bryar.

They have 3 albums: I brought you my bullets, you brought me your love (2002), Three cheers for sweet revenge (2004) and the last one: Welcome to the black parade. This album is the most famous and it came out in 2006. Some of the songs of this album have became very popular, for example Welcome to the black parade, Famous last words and I don´t love you.

We think they are successful because their music is very lively and, although sometimes the lyrics of their songs are a bit sad, teenagers like it because they criticize society. They are also very popular in the emo community.

The Fratellis

The group we're going to talk about is The Fratellis. They're a Scottish band from Glasgow. Their name is the surname of the criminal family in "The Goonies" film , the band's favourite childhood movie.

On 4 March 2005 they played their first show in "O'Henry's bar" , in Glasgow and months later they received their first radio playing. They have also won several awards during their career. They won "Best British Band" award on 4 July 2008 , "Best European Border Breaking Act" award on 27 January 2008 and "Best British Breaktrough Act" on 14 February 2007.

One of their songs has also appeared on one tv comercial here , in Spain.
They have fans all around the world.

We like the group because they sound really good. They're not like other pop bands , their lyrics are more for teenagers.

Iggy Pop

Iggy Pop was one of the most famous punk and psychedelic pop singers of the second part of the twentieth century. He was amazed when he saw The Doors and the special singer Jim Morrison at the university in Michigan.

His first group was The Stooges. He was the singer from the early 70's to 1975.

However, Pop made his best music when The Stooges dissapeared. This singer has been a good friend of other artists like David Bowie and Jim Morrison, as I have mentioned. Although Iggy Pop created different punk and rock styles in songs like Lust for life, The Passenger, Real Wild Child and Candy, he has had a serious problem in his life with drugs, as he was addicted to cocaine and heroine.
In my view, he succeeded because of his special and extravagant personality, showed in his concerts and lyrics of his songs.

SEX PISTOLS

Sex Pistols is apunk-rock band formed in 1975 in London(UK). They started the punk movement in that country, inspiring later more punk musicians. Their career only lasted 3 years but their ideas inspired many young people.

Originally, its musicians were: vocalist Johnny Rotten, guitarist Steve Jones, drummer Pau Cook and bassist Glen Matlock. Then Matlock was replaced by Sid Vicious in 1977 who died of a heroin overdose in February, 1979. The rest of the members continued with another group and they used to meet up sometimes.

Their concerts rapidly caused problems with the authorities and public appearances often ended up badly. Their single "God save the queen" went against the monarchy.

On 24 February 2006, the Sex Pistols were included into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, but they refused to go to the ceremony, calling the museum "a piss stain".

COLDPLAY

Coldplay is one of the most famous music groups in Great Britain. They started with the "Yellow" single and the "Parachutes" album. BBC Radio 1 broadcasted them, and it made them well known all over the country.

In 2005 they released the X&Y album, which had a very good reception.

Their last album was published in 2008. It was called "Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends". It was produced by Brian Eno, and had a worldwide release. One fact that made this album so successful was its strange release: it was available during one week on their website and more than 2 million people downloaded it before it was available in the shops. They won several Grammy awards.

In 2007 they started a Latin-American tour performing in Chile, Argentina, Brazil and Mexico.

Coldplay has become a very important group, worldwide famous and has sold more than 50 million discs.

MICHAEL JACKSON

Michael Jackson was born in 1958 in Gary(USA). At the age of 6 he used to sing with his brothers in a music group called Jackson Five. Later, he split up the group and started an individual career. In 80s he jumped to fame with his famous album "Thriller". He sold 100,000,000 copies and stayed for a long time at the top of the charts. The key of his success is the way he danced and the variety of his music.
He is also very famous because he changed his skin colour and his strange love for kids. He even was involved in a trial about pederasty. In 2009, he died in strange conditions. Surprisingly his doctor disappeared.
